Words from the City is a feature documentary exploring Australian hip hop through intimate and candid observations of some of the nation's most potent and compelling MCs.

The film features a line up of some of Australia’s most prolific and skilled performers hailing from Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth – including the multi-award winning Hilltop Hoods, veterans of the Australian hip hop scene who have worked tirelessly for over 12 years and whose music has seen hip hop surge into the mainstream; Koolism, the ARIA-award winning duo from the outskirts of suburban Canberra; MC Trey, a Fijian Australian woman whose rise to acclaim from Sydney’s outer west inspired many female MCs to follow her path; Downsyde, a collective of six young Perth men whose diverse cultural and musical backgrounds heavily influence their funk and soul inspired tracks; TZU, a political and creative force from inner city Melbourne; Sydney crew Bliss N Eso, whose complex, surreal rhymes have drawn legions of fans; Perth MC Layla, whose fiery lyrics and confrontational style pose a challenge to the conservative values of mainstream Australia; Wire MC, an Aboriginal MC living and working as a leader and activist in his community in inner-Sydney's Redfern; and Maya Jupiter, a Mexican Australian MC who, through her national radio show and her constant recording, continues to champion and uplift the profile of Australian hip hop.
